Sound (musically): The flow of this album is very much like a roller coaster built on a fluffy cloud track. It foo fighter style it first hits you with a smooth intro to a hard hitting song which is their first single, The Pretender. This song and album does have a real feeling of In Your Honor, but more mature and not two discs. By putting both sides of FF on one cd they had to be careful of making good smooth transitions between overdriven distortion ridden songs and intimate acoustic masterworks and they have put this transition into an art form. The songs seamlessly flow and it is an overall smooth and silky listen.
Sound (technically): The CD is mixed and produced by the great Gil Norton, who also produces Dashboard Confessional, Ben Kweller, and Jimmy Eat World. Its cream of the crop.
Lyrics: The lyrics are of typical Foo Fighters fashion. Some of it is heart touching and some of it does its job and fills the song with vocals(not a bad thing). The songs all seem to have a message to get across and it does it well. Most effectively is Statues.
Impression: It has a melloncolly feel and has its light and dark moments. None of the tracks drag the album as a whole down. It all builds on each other to make a wonderful album.
Overall: Definitely would recommend for rock fans, and absolutely for any FF fan. Its a good feel of the newer mature Foo Fighters. I enjoyed listening to it and its defiantly one of the better albums of the year.
